LEARN MORE

In just four years, Advanced 3D Laser Solutions has quickly established itself with a strong client base in the UK and Europe. After Establishing a strong client base in the UK, the team set its sights on Europe, particularly  in the Netherlands, as its offered new opportunities  to  expand the company’s offering.

VIRTUAL SITE TOURS

COVID has for many of us, forced changes in our work patterns including that of working from home. To facilitate this, company IT departments have softened their attitudes towards cloud computing methods to facilitate home working. However, for both managers and engineers employed on process installations, maintaining access to their operating areas during COVID pandemic has been restricted.

Our established clients have seen the benefit from having had A3D complete the 3D laser scanning of their sites where staff now working from home can use the scan data to continue visiting sites without necessarily stepping foot on site. The A3D solution allowing staff to walk, measure and inspect site without leaving their home desk. Furthermore, one of our major clients has quantified by around 40%, the saving in site visits from using A3D recorded 3D laser scan data.

MODEL EXAMPLE

This is Part of a clients site 3D Model, have a closer look and pan around this 3D spec driven model it  depicts the different services. For example what product is running through the lines. These Models offer a number of different outputs.

MODELLING WALKTHROUGH

The modelling software we use at A3D is Auto Cad Plant 3D. We have found that this software is familiar with most of our clients engineering departments as they use the software for other forms of in house P&ID work. We use the data gathered out on site to then trace over, using the Auto Cad software which provides a spec driven catalogue with all the piping components.

THE BENEFITS

DETAILED 3D SURVEY

By using proven 3D Laser Scanning techniques A3D are able to get a full 360 survey of your site, which means we only need to survey your site once and are able to take into account everything for future clash detection.

3D MODELLING

A3D use Autodesk Plant 3D a cost-effective option for detailed plant design and when coupled with the sites point cloud data, you have a powerful tool to layout pipework & equipment.

FABRICATION ISOS

Once the 3D Design has been undertaken, its becomes a quick function to export detailed isometrics, bill of materials, cut piece lists, weld lists and all built against clients design/CAD standards.

COST SAVINGS

The potential savings to clients our considerable using our 3D techniques rather than having to engage separate companies who will insist on completing their own site surveys. As FEED moves through to detailed design, the final 3D model will enable the export of the pipework fabrication packs.

TIME SAVINGS

By using systems such as laser scanning technology, semi-automated modelling systems and cost-effective modelling design packages, clients see a reduction in design costs.

CLIENT CONTROL

With our 4D Lizard cloud application, clients are able to login and get a complete picture of design progress, with the ability to comment and upload / download required documentation.

SERVICE BREAKDOWN

PRE-pLANNING

A3D will complete pre-planning in order to determine the most efficient and therefore, cost effective solution.

RISK & METHOD STATEMENTS

A3D recognise that any form of site work on an operating site must be subject of both RAMS along with planning documents in order to expedite an efficient and safe survey.

3D LASER SCAN

Recognised as the referred method for accurately capturing measured site data in using 3D laser scanning instruments. Traditional methods being time consuming  and subject to error.

REGISTER SCAN DATA

Once A3D has been out on site with the 3D Laser Scanners we then process the scan using faro scene software.

AUTO PIPEWORK RECOGNITION

A3D uses pipework recognition software to pick out the pipework from the point cloud data this save valuable time modelling.

STEEL WORK EXTRAPOLATION

A3D can provide steel work models this can aid clients in the situation where they need  feed a new line through the site. A3D offer clash detection services.

ADD PIPING COMPONENTS

Auto Cad Plant 3D has a catalogue of spec driven components which replicate onsite assets which can be given individual numbers which correspond with asset management systems.

ADD LINE NUMBERS

A3D uses the clients specific nomenclature which allows us to produce 2D deliverables  such as orthos and isos which tie into existing management systems.

EXPORT FABRICATION ISOS

The 3D models we produce have a list of outputs, including fabrication isos, Bill of Materials, Cut Piece and Weld lists. Also PCF files which can later be used for stress analysis.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do we require specialised software, to use the models?
Our models for digitising terminals are created in Autodesk Plant 3D, chances are if you already have an AutoCAD licence, you will have access to the same software package.
Will we have access to the scan data?
A3D give our clients full access to the point cloud data, including webshare access.
Do you have Case Studies for Design work?
Speak to our commercial department who will be able to send over case studies and testimonials
What will happen to the model after the project is finished?
All files are sent over to the client after completion and archived for a year, which afterwards will be deleted, unless stated otherwise.
Can you model in Pipe Supports?
Absolutely, we have access to a huge range of different pipe supports, which can help aid NDT API570 inspection and help with pipe stress analysis.
How do you model in valves?
All our piping components flanges, valves, elbows, tees etc are all brought in via a piping standard catalogue, for instance for a lot of our UK clients we use an ASME catalogue.
How do you know what spec your modelling too?
We use multiple methods, for instance using P&IDs, pictures from the scan data and when those aren’t available we work with the clients engineering team.
Can the models export Bill of Materials?
Yes as long as the Spec components are created correctly; because of the package we use, when a flange valve is modelled in, the gasket and bolt set are all accounted for, so they can be accounted for in dimensions and BOM.
Can the models be used for asset management?
Absolutely ! we can set your models up to store detailed information about the individual assets, including serial number, service, status, design pressure and more.
Does A3D supply stress analysis?
This is not a service we currently supply but we do have contacts that can work with our files

LASER SCANNING

A3D are proud to have established point cloud technologies, now recognised as the preferred method for accurately capturing measured site data in using 3D laser scanning instruments. Traditional methods being time consuming and subject to error

P&ID DRAWINGS

Piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) are considered a fundamental requirement for companies operating a process operation. P&IDs play a significant role in the maintenance and modification of the process that it describes and should be maintained

TANK ANALYSIS

The A3D Tank analysis reports deliver critical information with a level of detail not previously achieved using traditional methods. since we are using advanced 3d laser scanners with out need for temporary access platforms, thus technology is a market leading competitively priced alternative..
