Looking for Plant 3D Belfast Production and Support?
Belfast is Northern Ireland’s capital, the name being derived from Irish words meaning ‘mouth’ or ‘river mouth’ and ‘sandbar’, in short Belfast being translated as mouth of the sandbar or ford. Early settlements being dated back to the Bronze Age. Belfast was granted city status by Queen Victoria in 1888.
Following the Great Famine sectarian tensions resulting from large scale catholic immigration and like other cities, Belfast became the capital of six counties that was to become Northern Ireland in the United Kingdom. In 1932 the devolved government for this region moved to new building, Stormont on the eastern side of city.
It was the birthplace of the famous ocean liner RMS Titanic, which famously struck an iceberg and sunk in 1912. This legacy is recalled in the renovated dockyards’ Titanic Quarter, which includes the Titanic Belfast, an aluminium-clad museum reminiscent of a ship’s hull, as well as shipbuilder Harland & Wolff’s Drawing Offices and the Titanic Slipways, which now host open-air concerts.
