Process and Instrumentation Drawings (P&ID’s) are considered fundamental for companies running process systems. P&IDs play a significant role in the maintenance and modification of the process that it describes and should be maintained to reflect an up to date status. These drawings are critical in demonstrating the physical sequence of equipment and systems, as well as how these systems connect. During design the P&ID provides a basis for the development of control systems allowing safety and operational investigations including a hazard and operability study commonly known as a HAZOP.

Traditional P&IDs are built on light based 2D CAD platforms and hold little intelligence, this is a common platform for process site P&IDs but are open for bad CAD practices and human error.
Smart / Intelligent P&IDs are built against a database, all the CAD standards, templates and borders are built into the project allowing multiple CAD operators to work on a site but allowing a consistent drawing format, smart P&IDs are faster and reduce human error. also smart P&IDs have the function of downloading complete asset reports.
The first thing to understand is that P&IDs can’t be created directly from 3D scan data. The data captured from the laser scanner is 3 dimensional whereas a P&ID is drawn in 2 dimension and on occasions in a schematic format.
With our unique 2D P&ID structuring index we are able to quickly and easily create and export .csv files listing asset, equipment and line numbers directly from the CAD file, which later can be used to build or validate your existing asset management system.
